Doing Our Part to Slow Down Climate Change
Climate change is already responsible for 40% of heat-related deaths. The health of humanity’s only home is vital to our well-being and future. This depends on the actions we take now:
- Set goals, implement action plans, and embrace environmental stewardship.
- Chart a sustainability roadmap aiming to first reduce our carbon footprint and waste generation.
- Work systematically on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Goal
We are committed to protecting our planet by capping our carbon emissions growth by 2025, improving our waste and water management processes, and achieving Net-Zero by 2050.
Key Targets
- Cap Scope 1 and 2 emissions at 2022 baseline (inclusive of our growth) by 2025 and reduce year-on-year carbon intensity per patient bed-day
- (ACHIEVED) Strategise Scope 3 carbon accounting by 2023
- Be SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) ready by 2025
- (ACHIEVED) Reduce single-use virgin plastic by 90% in non-clinical areas of our Malaysia and Singapore operations.
2024 Progress
- Despite a 2.5% business growth in 2024, our emission intensity per patient day decreased by 3.2%, thanks in part to our efforts in improving energy efficiency and our ongoing switch to renewables
- Reduced usage of environmentally harmful anaesthetic gases by up to 55% across our core markets, taking decisive action to lower our environmental impact
- After the successful implementation on lowering single-use plastics in non-clinical areas within Malaysia and Singapore, we expanded the efforts to our other markets where Hong Kong and Türkiye achieved above 90% reduction
