Learn how our third memorandum of understanding with Ministry of Health Malaysia is expanding access to life-saving, advanced cancer care at 8 of our hospitals.

IHH Healthcare Malaysia has inked its third Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Health Malaysia, reaffirming our commitment to making advanced cancer treatment accessible to more Malaysians.
The collaboration will fully sponsor radiotherapy and radiosurgery for an additional 500 patients referred from government hospitals. Since its launch in 2022, this public-private initiative has enabled 1,000 cancer patients to receive high-quality treatment at no cost through our Malaysia hospital network.
"This collaboration is a concrete step toward closing the access gap for underserved and lower-income groups. It also reflects Malaysia's broader commitment to Universal Health Coverage, where cancer care is not treated as a privilege but as a right. We should never allow a patient's health outcome to be dictated by where they live or how much they earn,” said Health Minister, YB Datuk Seri Dr Haji Dzulkefly Ahmad during the signing ceremony held at the Malaysia Ministry of Health Multipurpose Hall on 7 July 2025.
This latest agreement will also include Island Hospital Penang, bringing the total number of participating IHH Healthcare Malaysia hospitals to eight. The other seven participating hospitals are Gleneagles Hospital Johor, Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Gleneagles Hospital Penang, Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh, Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Pantai Hospital Penang and Prince Court Medical Centre.
"Public-private partnerships play an important role in bridging healthcare gaps, especially for life-threatening illnesses like cancer. By renewing our partnership, we are taking another step forward in our shared mission of making timely, high-quality care more accessible to those who need it most," said IHH Healthcare Chairman Tan Sri Dr Nik Norzrul Thani bin Nik Hassan Thani.
Under the MOU, patients will be able to receive care at our facilities equipped with advanced technologies such as Gamma Knife and Linear Accelerator (LINAC). These allow for precision tumour targeting while preserving healthy tissue. The initiative also supports the goals outlined in Malaysia’s National Cancer Control Blueprint, particularly the need for earlier intervention and broader access to cancer services.
“Cancer care is not just about cutting-edge equipment. It is also about compassion and commitment. We know the financial burden can be overwhelming, especially in today’s environment. By renewing this MOU, we are reaffirming our role in supporting the public healthcare system and easing that burden where we can," said IHH Healthcare Group CEO Dr Prem Kumar Nair.
“This partnership began with a clear purpose: to close the gap in access to timely, quality cancer care. Treating 1,000 patients so far shows the real impact of that commitment. As we enter this next phase, we remain focused on working with the MOH to ensure more patients receive the care they need, when they need it,” said IHH Healthcare Malaysia CEO Jean-François Naa.
