Our hospital in Hyderabad has set a new benchmark in cardiac care in India through a rare, minimally invasive procedure.

In a clinical achievement, Gleneagles Hospital, Lakdi-ka-pul, Hyderabad became the first in the Telugu-speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and the second in South India to successfully perform a Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) on a 75-year-old male patient.
Led by Dr M Sai Sudhakar, Chief Cardiologist and a pioneer in structural heart interventions, the team performed the procedure under conscious sedation using a minimally invasive, catheter-based approach.
The patient, who suffered from severe mitral regurgitation, pulmonary arterial hypertension, and NYHA Class IV heart failure, was deemed unfit for open-heart surgery due to high risk.
The outcome was immediate and transformative: mitral regurgitation was reduced from severe to mild, and within 24 hours, the patient improved to NYHA Class II, regaining functional mobility. He remains under close follow-up and is showing strong recovery.
“This case exemplifies how advanced structural heart interventions can transform outcomes for patients who have no other surgical options. Our team’s expertise and commitment made it possible to offer a life-changing therapy to a patient previously considered inoperable,” said Dr Sudhakar.
This breakthrough is not just clinical; it is also economical. Previously, such treatments relied on expensive imported devices. With the introduction of India’s domestically developed MyClip device, this therapy is now far more affordable and accessible to patients across the country.
Madhvi Khurana, Chief Administrator of Gleneagles Hospital, Lakdi-ka-pul, added:
“Bringing the MyClip procedure to the Telugu states not only sets a new benchmark for cardiac care but also reinforces our mission to make the latest, most effective treatment accessible to our community.”
This milestone underscores Gleneagles Hospital, Lakdi-ka-pul’s role within IHH Healthcare as a regional centre of excellence for advanced cardiac and minimally invasive therapies. Backed by a skilled multidisciplinary team - from interventional cardiology to critical care - we continue to lead with excellence, compassion, and a commitment to care for all.
