In a powerful coming together of healthcare, faith and community, Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai has unveiled a 15.59-metre sculpture at Lalbaug, Mumbai, to raise awareness about organ donation during Ganeshotsav.

The installation, aptly named Organ of Hope, has earned the Guinness World Records title for the Largest Fibreglass Sculpture of Organs, marking a significant milestone for the hospital and bringing greater visibility to a cause that can transform lives. 

Created as part of the hospital's Organs of Hope campaign, the sculpture takes an important healthcare conversation beyond hospital walls and into one of Mumbai's most prominent community gatherings, encouraging more people to learn about organ donation and consider the gift of life.

While the world record is a remarkable achievement, the campaign is driven by a much greater purpose: helping address the gap between the need for donated organs and their availability.

According to India's National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), 20,019 organ transplants were performed in India in 2025. Yet, as of 3 March 2026, 89,839 people remained on the national waiting list for major organs. 

These figures highlight the importance of building public awareness, addressing misconceptions and encouraging families to have informed conversations about organ donation.

Through Organs of Hope, Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai is bringing this message directly to the community, where volunteers are engaging visitors, sharing information and encouraging people to consider making an organ donation pledge.

Supported by Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, the campaign brings together healthcare organisations, community partners and educational institutions in a shared effort to promote organ donation.

Participating organisations include ZTCC, MOHAN Foundation, Narmada Kidney Foundation, Verma Trust, Donate Life Lunawa Helping Hands and the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine, Mumbai City Branch.

Students and faculty from participating colleges have also contributed through artwork, pledges and awareness activities, helping extend the message beyond the campaign site and into their families and communities.

Dr Bipin Chevale, CEO of Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai, emphasised that while the Guinness World Records title represents an important milestone, the campaign's greater purpose is to raise awareness, address misconceptions and inspire more people to consider organ donation.

The Organ of Hope sculpture is more than a record-breaking installation. It serves as a reminder that behind every organ donation is the possibility of giving someone awaiting a transplant another chance at life.

By bringing healthcare awareness into the heart of the community, Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai demonstrates how meaningful partnerships can extend the impact of care beyond hospital walls.

Through Organs of Hope, the hospital hopes to inspire more individuals to learn about organ donation, discuss their wishes with their loved ones and consider the Gift of Life.
