A 48-year-old woman battling end-stage heart failure has been given a new lease of life following a successful heart transplant at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram (Fortis Gurugram).
Suffering from Dilated Cardiomyopathy, her heart function had declined to just 15 percent after repeated hospitalisations. Hope arrived when the family of a 47-year-old woman, who was declared brain dead at a neighbouring hospital, made the selfless decision to donate her organs.
A dedicated green corridor enabled the donor heart to be transported to Fortis Gurugram in just 17 minutes. The transplant was performed in the early hours of the morning, and the new heart began beating independently shortly after implantation. The patient is now stable, alert, and recovering well.
This case underscores the power of coordinated medical expertise, rapid emergency response, and the profound generosity of donor families, reminding us how organ donation can truly transform lives.
