Energy Management

Saving energy and using cleaner energy sources is one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce greenhouse gases and help tackle climate change. Our focus on energy management includes setting targets to reduce emissions, improving energy efficiency, and leveraging our global network for best practices and continuous improvement.
Why is Energy Management important?

Why is Energy Management important?

Energy consumption — primarily the combustion of fossil fuels — makes up well over half of the healthcare sector’s climate footprint. As one of the world’s largest healthcare groups, we have a responsibility to reduce the impact our operations have on climate change. With the high energy intensity of our hospitals, one of our first priorities is to take concrete steps to improve energy management.
We set both interim and long-term goals to steer our actions as a group today and tomorrow towards creating a better, sustainable future for the planet.
  • Interim Targets
    • To cap Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions at 2022 baseline level by 2025, inclusive of our growth
    • To reduce year-on-year Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon intensity per patient bed-day
    • To begin the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) commitment process by 2025
  • Long-term Target
    • To achieve Net-Zero emissions by 2050
Refer to our Sustainability Report for a full list of goals and targets.

of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the healthcare sector. This is more than the aviation and shipping sectors.
At IHH, we have committed to reduce our emissions every year by bringing down energy usage and using alternative energy sources.
What We’re Doing

What We’re Doing

We have focused on establishing baselines and reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions through the following:

  • Tracking and reducing energy consumption across our global network.
  • Improving energy efficiency by upgrading infrastructure such as chillers and lighting systems.
  • Turning to renewable energy sources such as solar power.

Caring for our planet holds immense importance, as its well-being significantly influences human health and humanity’s future.
