IHH Healthcare Singapore's Patient Intelligence Centre brings hospital operations into sharper focus, empowering care teams with timely information to improve efficiency, anticipate capacity pressures and coordinate patient care more effectively.

Across a busy hospital, every minute counts. From coordinating admissions and patient transfers to managing bed availability and operating theatre schedules, healthcare teams must navigate complex workflows to ensure patients receive timely, coordinated care.
At IHH Healthcare Singapore, innovation is helping to make these processes simpler and more efficient.
Through the implementation of its Patient Intelligence Centre (PIC), IHH Singapore estimates that it is saving approximately 31,000 hours of administrative and operational effort annually, reducing the time spent gathering, validating and coordinating information across multiple systems and stakeholders.
The platform, now implemented across all four IHH Singapore hospitals, represents an important step in transforming how hospital teams access information and make operational decisions.
Developed by a multidisciplinary team spanning nursing, bed management, operating theatre operations, hospital operations, IT and senior management, PIC brings together information from multiple hospital systems into a unified, near-real-time view.
Through purpose-built dashboards accessible on mobile devices and workstations, nursing and operations teams can monitor bed occupancy, admissions, discharges, patient transfers and operating theatre activity.
Previously, nurse leaders often relied on multiple phone calls and follow-ups to obtain updates on bed availability, patient movements and operating theatre schedules.
With PIC, teams can now access relevant operational information more efficiently, identify emerging capacity pressures earlier and coordinate across departments before bottlenecks escalate.
For example, when an operating theatre delay affects recovery areas or inpatient bed demand, the platform helps teams recognise these interconnected challenges and respond in a more coordinated manner.
Unlike conventional hospital command centres that rely on a centralised control room, PIC adopts a hybrid, virtual operating model that places operational information directly in the hands of those responsible for taking action.
Each hospital retains autonomy over its operations, while group leadership benefits from consolidated visibility across the network.
First piloted at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, PIC was progressively implemented across all four IHH Singapore hospitals by the end of 2025.
Since its rollout, the platform has helped nurse leaders anticipate patient movements, coordinate admissions and transfers, and make more informed decisions on staffing and patient flow.
For Elaine Choo, Director of Nursing at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, the platform represents a meaningful improvement in the way nursing teams work.
"Overall, PIC transforms how nurse leaders access and use operational information," she shared.
By reducing repetitive administrative coordination and improving access to timely information, PIC supports a more streamlined working environment, enabling healthcare professionals to direct more of their attention towards care delivery.
PIC currently provides near-real-time, rules-based operational intelligence, helping teams identify capacity pressures, patient-flow exceptions, potential booking conflicts and other situations requiring attention.
Looking ahead, IHH Singapore plans to expand the platform's capabilities to encompass areas such as radiology operations, workforce attendance, pharmacy workflows and patient acuity management.
Predictive analytics and AI-enabled capabilities are also part of its longer-term roadmap, subject to appropriate data maturity, governance and clearly defined operational benefits.
For Raman S/O Nadarajan, Assistant Vice President, Operational Excellence, IHH Healthcare Singapore, the ambition extends beyond creating dashboards.
"The ambition is not simply to build more dashboards. It is to create a continuously evolving operational nervous system for the hospital," he explained.
The platform's development is underpinned by data validation, cybersecurity safeguards and governance processes designed to ensure that information remains reliable, secure and useful for decision-making.
As IHH Healthcare continues to advance innovation across its network, the Patient Intelligence Centre demonstrates how thoughtfully applied technology can empower healthcare professionals, improve operational efficiency and support more responsive, coordinated care.
By connecting information, people and decisions, IHH is taking another step towards delivering better care, for more people.
