The International Liver Cancer Conference 2026 in Hong Kong brought together leading clinicians, researchers and healthcare innovators to explore new pathways in liver cancer treatment and education. Among the highlights was the joint participation of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Medicine (HKUMed), underscoring the city’s growing role as a hub for advanced oncology care and clinical collaboration.
Professor Chak-sing Lau, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health) and Dean of Medicine at HKUMed, emphasised the importance of academic–clinical partnerships in driving progress against liver cancer. His leadership has been instrumental in fostering collaboration between HKUMed and Gleneagles Hong Kong, enabling the translation of research breakthroughs into real-world clinical practice.
Dr Kenneth Tsang, Regional CEO of IHH Healthcare North Asia and CEO of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, highlighted how the hospital’s commitment to innovation and multidisciplinary care reflects IHH Healthcare’s Strategy 2030 vision to trailblaze the industry through clinical excellence, research and technology. Under his leadership, Gleneagles Hong Kong continues to pioneer new approaches to liver cancer management through precision diagnostics, minimally invasive techniques and physician training.
The conference also served as a platform for experts to discuss emerging technologies such as histotripsy, a non-invasive ultrasound-based therapy first introduced in Asia by Gleneagles Hong Kong, and its potential to transform liver cancer treatment. Through continued collaboration and education, the hospital aims to strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a centre of excellence for hepatobiliary care.
By connecting research, clinical practice and education, IHH Healthcare and Gleneagles Hong Kong are shaping the future of liver cancer care. Colleagues across our network can draw inspiration from this model of partnership-driven innovation to advance better care for patients everywhere.
