IHH Healthcare Singapore and Medistra Hospital signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 22 January 2026, marking a significant step forward in advancing liver disease services and strengthening healthcare quality across the region.

Established in 1991, Medistra Hospital is a leading private tertiary hospital in South Jakarta, recognised for its comprehensive specialist services and commitment to clinical quality. The partnership with IHH Healthcare Singapore reflects a shared ambition to enhance capabilities in managing complex liver conditions through structured collaboration.
Under the MoU, both institutions will deepen cross-border cooperation in developing centres of clinical excellence, conducting multidisciplinary case discussions, facilitating training and knowledge transfer for healthcare professionals, and strengthening clinical governance frameworks.
The signing ceremony was held alongside a scientific session themed “Liver Diseases in Indonesia: Current Challenges and the Evolving Role of Liver Transplantation.” Dr Ek Khoon Tan, General Surgeon (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary & Transplant) from Gleneagles Hospital Singapore, shared insights on the latest developments in liver transplantation as a therapeutic option for end-stage liver disease. The event brought together Medistra Hospital’s management, specialist physicians, referral partners and delegates from IHH Healthcare Singapore.
Mr Thomas Wee, CEO of Gleneagles Hospital Singapore, said that healthcare today is no longer confined by borders, adding that medical tourism is no longer just about treating travellers but about building a regional ecosystem where hospitals collaborate, knowledge flows freely, and patients can access the best possible care regardless of geography.
Through this collaboration, both institutions aim to drive innovation, strengthen clinical capabilities, and improve patient outcomes in Indonesia and beyond.
