At Gleneagles JPMC, where advancing cardiac health is at the heart of what we do, Perfusion Week, celebrated from 1 to 7 May, provided a meaningful opportunity to honour a group of professionals whose vital contributions often happen out of the spotlight – our perfusionists.
In the high-stress environment of cardiac surgery, perfusionists play a life-saving yet largely unseen role. Working closely with heart surgeons and medical teams, they are responsible for operating the heart-lung machine, which temporarily takes over the functions of the heart and lungs during complex procedures. This allows surgeons to perform life-saving operations while ensuring the patient’s blood circulation and oxygen levels are safely maintained.
The perfusionist team at Gleneagles JPMC brings remarkable skill, focus, and dedication to every procedure.
Throughout Perfusion Week, Gleneagles JPMC celebrated the dedication and excellence of our team of perfusionists, strengthening our commitment to recognising the people who make world-class heart care possible and raising awareness about the critical role they play in the operating theatre.
To our perfusionists: thank you for being the steady hands and sharp minds behind every heartbeat we help restore.
