Cardiovascular Laboratory at Gleneagles JPMC continues to evolve, marked by new milestones in advanced heart rhythm procedures.

A key milestone was achieved with the successful completion of the first VARIPULSE procedure at the hospital, marking the first case of its kind in Borneo. The procedure represents an important advancement in the treatment of atrial fibrillation and other rhythm disorders, enabling precise targeting of cardiac tissue through controlled pulsed energy.
In a further step forward, the team also performed the hospital’s first Extravascular Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (EV-ICD) implantation. This next-generation device enhances patient safety by continuously monitoring heart rhythms and delivering life-saving therapy when critical abnormalities are detected.
These achievements reflect the steady development of specialist expertise within the team, supported by close coordination across clinical, technical and nursing functions. Each milestone is the result of rigorous preparation, teamwork in the cath lab and a shared commitment to safe, high-quality care.
More importantly, these advancements expand the range of treatment options available locally for patients with complex cardiac conditions, reducing the need for overseas referral and improving access to advanced care within Brunei.
