Did you know breast cancer is the number one cancer among Indian women, with one out of two women die within five years due to delay in diagnosis?
To drive awareness of breast cancer and provide a safe and comfortable space for women to get screened and seek treatment for all types of cancer, BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital has launched a Women’s Cancer Care Centre, an all-inclusive, women-led facility that provides women with complete cancer care.
In conjunction with the centre launch on 13 November, the hospital also collaborated with ImpactGuru.com, a healthcare crowdfunding platform to host a cyclothon in the city – Pink Ride – to further drive awareness on breast cancer.
The event was inaugurated by celebrities including Sunetra Pandit, Cine Artist and Dubbing Artist, Nayana Sooda, renowned Theatre Artist, Jayashree Raj, Cine Artist and Producer as well as Rohith Nagesh, Cine Artist and President of Rotary Banashankari. Over 400 participants including the BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital team, cancer survivors, bikers and people from the neighbourhood came together to support the cause.
The hospital provided a month-long free breast examination for women, along with tips and techniques for self-examination.
Sandeep Kumar, CEO of BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital, said, "It is hard to pinpoint the cause of the disease, however, there are a few risk factors including sedentary lifestyle, alcohol consumption, obesity among youngsters and poor dietary intake. It is believed that the mortality rate due to breast cancer in India spiked due to a lack of awareness and screening programmes which led to late diagnosis."
