IHH Healthcare expands footprint with groundbreaking of Gleneagles Hospital Kuching

On 24 February 2025, IHH Healthcare officially broke ground on Gleneagles Hospital Kuching, marking a major milestone in the Group’s expansion into Sarawak, East Malaysia.

Slated to open in Q2 2028, the new 200-bed hospital at Jalan Lintang Selatan will offer cutting-edge specialties such as cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, and neurology. The hospital will also be equipped with advanced medical technology, including AI-assisted diagnostics, robotic surgery systems, and state-of-the-art imaging facilities. This investment, valued at approximately RM400 million, underscores IHH’s commitment to delivering high-quality, value-based healthcare in the region.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who officiated the groundbreaking ceremony, said that the new hospital will enhance Sarawak’s healthcare system while strengthening the state’s position as a key destination for medical tourism

IHH Healthcare Group CEO Dr Prem Kumar Nair highlighted that the expansion aligns with IHH’s mission to provide world-class medical care where it is needed most.

“Expanding our footprint into Sarawak with Gleneagles Hospital Kuching reaffirms IHH Healthcare’s commitment to delivering world-class medical care where it is needed most. As part of our network of leading hospitals across Malaysia and beyond, this facility will provide patients with access to highquality, value-based medical services and the highest standard of care. We look forward to serving both local communities and international patients seeking trusted expertise in the region.”

IHH Healthcare Malaysia CEO Jean-François Naa echoed this sentiment, stating that Gleneagles Hospital Kuching will serve as a centre of excellence, catering to the growing demand for quality medical services in Sarawak.

“Sarawak’s growing population and increasing health awareness are driving demand for quality medical services. Our strategic investment in Gleneagles Hospital Kuching will meet this need and enhance community wellbeing. We are committed to delivering a hospital built to the highest standards. Once operational, it will serve as a centre of excellence, providing Sarawakians and regional patients with world-class healthcare.”

Upon completion, Timberland Medical Centre, currently part of IHH Malaysia’s network, will merge into Gleneagles Hospital Kuching, ensuring a seamless transition of medical expertise and services.

This expansion reaffirms IHH’s ongoing commitment to widening access to high quality healthcare in Malaysia and beyond, further solidifying its position as a trusted leader in global healthcare.
