IHH Champions Health Literacy Through Quality Journalism
20 Jul 2026
Health literacy often begins long before a patient enters a hospital. It can begin with a well-told story that helps people understand complex health issues, recognise warning signs and make more informed decisions about their care.

At the Singapore Press Club Awards 2026, Dr Peter Chow, CEO of IHH Singapore, presented The Straits Times journalist Joyce Teo with the Health and Wellness Journalism Award.

Joyce was recognised for her sensitive and purposeful reporting on mental health, a subject that can be difficult for many individuals and families to discuss openly. Her article examined the death by suicide of an 11-year-old child, addressing difficult questions while providing practical guidance from a psychiatrist on recognising potential warning signs and seeking support early.

IHH Healthcare is the new sponsor of the Health and Wellness Journalism Award, reflecting our commitment to supporting credible journalism that strengthens public understanding of health and wellbeing.

Trusted information can be as important as access to care. By translating complex medical and health issues into reporting that is accessible, credible and actionable, journalists can help raise awareness, encourage earlier intervention and empower individuals to make better-informed health decisions.

We congratulate Joyce and all the Singapore Press Club Awards recipients whose work continues to inform, educate and make a meaningful difference in the community.
