After many failed attempts to get their daughter Samiya, who was born with a deformity on her right hand, a prosthesis so she could cope better with day-to-day activities, the family was thrilled to hear good news from the team at Global Hospitals in Parel.
After several counselling sessions with Dr Nilesh Satbhai, a Senior Consultant in Plastic, Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery, it was determined that Samiya would benefit from a hand transplant. However, due to her age, the team had to wait until she turned 18 to obtain her legal consent. Finally, on her 18th birthday, Samiya was registered for the transplant.
Thanks to the generosity of a 52-year-old deceased woman's family in Indore, Samiya received a new arm after a complex 13-hour surgery. She is currently undergoing a 9 to 12 month rehabilitation programme to have a fully functional hand.
We wish her all the best as she continues to recover and regain normalcy of life.
