Bacterial antimicrobial resistance (AMR) contributed to 4.95 million deaths worldwide in 2019, making it one of the top global public health and development threats today according to the World Health Organisation.
At the ground-breaking Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence Symposium held in Kula Lumpur on 22 November, IHH Malaysia and our Premier Integrated Labs joined forces with bioMérieux, to drive industry collaboration in tackling AMR.
The symposium highlighted the importance of diagnostics in AMR control, the link between AMR and judicious use of antibiotics, and initiatives in the public and private healthcare sector for controlling AMR.
Jean-François Naa, CEO of IHH Healthcare Malaysia, expressed his commitment, stating, "At IHH Healthcare Malaysia, combating AMR is ingrained in our global sustainability goals. Our active AMS committee strategically spearheads initiatives. In this battle, knowledge is our strongest ally. The exchange of insights between global experts, local healthcare leaders, and private providers is crucial as we navigate uncharted waters.
