When duty calls, there’s no stopping our Pantai Premier Pathology lab colleagues from doing what it takes – even when facing an overnight, 100-fold spike in number of patient swabs. For the team’s dedication and professionalism, two of them, Abdul Razak and Lim Shih Chang, got featured in Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council’s website, in a special segment paying tribute to Malaysia’s frontliners.
Abdul Razak, Lab Manager at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, shared the challenges the team had to overcome to transform their operations overnight - from 5 people running a lab to a team of 20 working round the clock without cracking under pressure - to deliver quick turnaround of sample results.
“The biggest challenge that we faced during this time was how to keep our operations running smoothly, while keeping our team protected from direct virus exposure. With the urgency of the situation in mind, we started expanding our lab capacity, bringing in more equipment and people in just under three days,” he said. Lim Shih Chang, Lab Manager at Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur, echoed similar sentiments.
“During this COVID-19 pandemic, the most obvious change was that our normal samples such as general screenings reduced, instead our COVID-19 testing saw an increase of about 500%! Due to the influx in tests, we needed to call for help from all our branches in Klang Valley, ranging from CEOs to scientists and junior scientists. We were on rotation basis for 24-hours,” added Shih Chang. See full story here: https://www.mhtc.org.my/blog/2020/10/22/mr-lim-shih-chang-laboratory-manager-gleneagles-kuala-lumpur/
