Irfa suffered from Wilson’s disease, a rare inherited disorder that causes copper to accumulate in the liver, brain and other vital organs.

Her parents made every effort to ensure their daughter received continuous medical therapy until she got cured. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a disruption in the supply of her medication. As a result, Irfa’s condition worsened and she started to experience Parkinson-like symptoms, dysarthria and liver damage.

A multi-disciplinary team at Global Hospital, Parel, gave her a thorough examination and decided that her best chance of survival was to undergo a liver transplant.
