To save her daughter, mother of 13-year-old Irfa was more than willing to donate her liver from the get-go. The pressure fell on Global Hospital, Parel’s transplant team to fulfil her hopes of seeing her daughter live a vibrant and happy life once more.
Irfa suffered from Wilson’s disease, a rare inherited disorder that causes copper to accumulate in the liver, brain and other vital organs.
Her parents made every effort to ensure their daughter received continuous medical therapy until she got cured. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a disruption in the supply of her medication. As a result, Irfa’s condition worsened and she started to experience Parkinson-like symptoms, dysarthria and liver damage.
A multi-disciplinary team at Global Hospital, Parel, gave her a thorough examination and decided that her best chance of survival was to undergo a liver transplant.
