With COVID-19 cases on the rise in neighbouring Azerbaijan, 40 specialists from Acibadem Healthcare have taken their experience across borders to help patients at the recently opened Yeni Klinika Hospital in Baku.

The 9-member advance team led by Chief Physician Caglar Cuhadaroglu, Professor Sesin Kocagoz and Professor Özkan Akıncı have stationed themselves in Azerbaijan since 29 June. They were reinforced by more than 30 nurses, physicians, biomedical engineers and technical managers from Acıbadem to ensure continuity of COVID-19 care at the hospital. For a two-month period, the team will tap their experience and knowledge in managing the pandemic to train their local counterparts in the treatment and prevention of COVID-19.

With the support from Acibadem, the new hospital in Azerbaijan has seen significant success in the treatment of COVID-19 patients in terms of length of hospital stay and intensive care days, according to its Director Parviz Abbasov.

Originally slated to open in November this year, Yeni Klinika Hospital began operations eight months earlier in March when COVID-19 struck the world. To this day, the 575-bed facility remains a dedicated COVID-19 hospital.
